An homage to 90s FPS and arena shooters with surreal fragments you combine for super powers. On steroids. And possibly something else.

Fragmentosis is a surreal first-person and arena shooter where bizarre experiments with fragments of the human psyche fuel your superpowers. Fight hordes, build strange inventions from memetic fragments, shape your runs with collectible cards, tackle bosses with friends, or turn your creations against each other in deathmatch. It combines frantic old-school shooting with a mental-fragment laboratory where curiosity can be a weapon. So can a telephone attached to something with teeth.

The fragments are living pieces of thought, emotion, dreams and digital nonsense. Vacuum them up, launch them, staple them together, shrink them, inflate them, freeze them, duplicate them and transform them. Your inventions inherit properties and behaviors from their ingredients. Discover useful reactions, fill your Fever meter and push towards MAXIMUM FRAGMENTOSIS, gaining increasingly ridiculous super powers as your experiments get out of hand.

FEATURES, SYMPTOMS & QUESTIONABLE POSSIBILITIES

• 90s-inspired first-person combat: Run, jump, dash and shoot through surreal arenas filled with hostile creatures, machines and objects with poor boundaries.

• Fragments that do things: Experiment with bizarre objects and their behaviors. Combine ingredients into inventions that affect how you fight, survive and cause problems.

• An arsenal of instruments and weapons: Capture, launch, connect and manipulate fragments. Shrink a problem, freeze it, or make it considerably larger.

• Feed the Fever: Useful experiments build Fever and grant new powers. Keep experimenting until the situation becomes medically difficult to describe.

• Cards and evolving builds: Collect cards, prepare your deck and draft upgrades during runs. Find combinations that complement your instruments and preferred brand of nonsense.

• 12 playable characters: Familiar faces from Neebota join Fragmentosis originals, with different traits and play styles.

• A record of your bad ideas: Discover combinations, collect fragments and fill your invention journal. There is always another experiment you probably shouldn't try.

• Solo, co-op and competitive chaos: Experiment alone, share the laboratory with friends, or settle your scientific disagreements in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.

CHOOSE YOUR KIND OF CHAOS

• Campaign: Fight your way through a surreal, chapter-based adventure, experiment with bizarre fragments and push your Fever powers to their limits.

• Fever Run: Fight waves, build inventions, draft cards and defeat the arena boss before time runs out.

• Endless Horde: Survive increasingly dangerous waves and recurring bosses. Your experiments might keep you alive.

• Boss Arena: Bring your equipment, your inventions and preferably your friends. Face an enormous problem.

• Rail Shooter: Ride a minecart, aim freely and experiment on the move as you fight towards the boss.

• Endless Corridor: Hold a long hall against an endlessly growing horde. Personal space is temporary.

• Sandbox: Experiment with all equipment and cards, without damage, waves or time pressure.

• Clean-up: Shrink fragments and vacuum away the mess. No danger. No hurry. Someone has to do it.

• Co-op: Play the arena modes together, combine your experiments and fight side by side.

• Deathmatch: Every dreamer for themselves. Turn your arsenal and inventions against other players.

• Team Deathmatch: Two teams, one shared scientific disagreement. Choose Weapons Only in either deathmatch mode for a straight-up shooting contest.

WHAT IS FRAGMENTOSIS, EXACTLY?

Fragmentosis n. /ˌfræɡ.mɛnˈtoʊ.sɪs/

1. A fictitious cognitive condition marked by compulsive interaction with chaotic fragments of thought, imagery, and digital noise of the collective human and non-human spirit.

Symptoms: spontaneous clicking, uncontrollable laughter, emotional confusion, and a persistent urge to “connect one more thing.”

Origin: from fragmentum (Latin: “broken piece”) + -osis (Greek: “condition or process”).

2. A surreal first-person action-roguelite video game in which the player manipulates disjointed fragments of the human psyche inside a living digital collage.

Players employ various tools and collectible cards to connect, shrink, zap, and evolve bizarre objects such as tortilla chips, laser cats, anxious eggs, and other emotional debris.

Gameplay induces alternating states of awe, chaos, and mild self-reflection.

3. colloq. The irresistible state of mind experienced after prolonged exposure to absurd interactive art.

Usage: “She’s got full-blown Fragmentosis; won’t stop clicking the crying phone fragment.”

Treatment: None known. Hydration and social sharing are advised.

COLLAGE? What Collage?

An assembled artwork made of whatever you can glue together: photographs, paper, dreams, tortillas, cats with lasers. A grand theater of emotion and meaning, captured and lost again. That’s what Fragmentosis is. Only this collage is alive, interactive, and deeply confused about itself.

Fragments appear. You poke them. They react. They evolve. Some explode. Some meow. Some whisper things you’ll never forget. Combine tools, collect cards, and discover rules that probably shouldn’t exist.

Part roguelite, part fps and  arena shooter, part consciousness flicker, part meme-generator, part cry for help: an experiment in human emotion disguised as an arcade toying with the universe.

Upgrade tools, slot cards, or just connect random nonsense until your screen looks like a psychiatric Jackson Pollock. Either way, you’ll end up laughing, panicking, or ascending.

You will get profiled. You will find out, for example, how many birds you have devoured in your dreams. What this means depends on your IQ, EQ, GQ, as well as your hormone levels, if you have them.

FAQ

What genre is this game?

A first-person arena shooter with roguelite runs, deckbuilding, fragment experiments, a campaign, co-op and competitive multiplayer. Or, technically speaking, a frantic psychosis-powered mental ninja capacitator.

Happy now? Or didn't you want to be happy? Then what do you want to be? What are you even doing here? What are we, humans, even doing here?

Will I be enlightened after this?

You will certainly not be the same. This game may not be for the faint-hearted. Your preferred input device, however, is not a psychological diagnosis. Keyboard and mouse or controller: bring whichever helps you make worse decisions faster.

Is this a form of therapy?

Apparently 3 out of 10 fictitious people say they got traumatized by it. Their voices reverberate in the developer's mind.

THANKS

This game was made possible by Phineas Gage, Srinivasa Ramanujan, John von Neumann, Gabe Newell, Georg Cantor, Salvador Dalí, David Lynch, Felix the Cat, Lassie, Salad Fingers, as well as Neebota's very own Unfairy. Also, you. Especially you.

So, you're still reading, ey? This is an attempt at expressing the human collective. So that means it's doomed to fail. No, no... doomed to fragment. That was the line. Only there is no line. Apart from the ones you connect... concepts with? Oh, stop it already, will ya?! Please just give it a rest!!!
