Smoke and Steel is a turn-based wargame blending tactical battles with grand strategy set during the early 18th century, an age of disciplined musket lines, thundering cavalry charges and battlefields swallowed by cannon smoke.

Command the armies of Europe in tactical battles where formation, positioning and morale decide the outcome, then lead your nation through campaigns of war, diplomacy, trade and technological change.

Every volley counts. Every step matters.

• Turn-Based Tactical Battles: Command historical units of infantry, cavalry and artillery in combat where morale, terrain and flanking shape the outcome.

• Turn-Based Grand Campaign: Lead a nation through early 18th-century Europe. Build your economy, forge alliances, negotiate trade deals and wage war.

• Great Northern War Story Campaign: Follow Sweden and King Charles XII through linked battles, with progression between engagements and alternate-history endings.

• Single-Player and Multiplayer: Challenge the AI, face other players online or play locally in hotseat.

• Seven Playable Nations: Command historical European powers, each with its own roster of units and unique administration.

• Map Editor and Modding Support: Build campaign and battle maps, create custom units and add your own nations. Create entirely new worlds.

Fight historical engagements from the Battle of Blenheim to the Battle of Poltava, or create your own skirmishes. Play against the AI or challenge other players online or in local hotseat.

Break their will to fight. Maintain your battle line, protect your flanks and concentrate fire where it matters. Rally wavering troops and exploit weaknesses before the enemy can recover.

Morale is as important as manpower. Sustained fire, flanking attacks and the sight of nearby allies routing can cause troops to lose their nerve and retreat. A single unit breaking at the wrong moment can trigger a chain reaction, turning an orderly battle line into a rout.

Command historically inspired units including Line Infantry, Grenadiers, Dragoons, Cuirassiers, Hussars and Field Artillery, each with a distinct role on the battlefield.

Forge your own path through early 18th-century Europe in the turn-based Grand Campaign, taking command of one of Europe's great powers.

Build your economy, manage trade and diplomacy, secure strategic resources and develop new technologies. Raise armies and decide where and when to commit them.

Logistics sustain both your economy and your armies. Keep goods moving between cities and supplies reaching the front. Protect your transport routes and disrupt the enemy's to weaken their ability to wage war.

The decisions you make on the campaign map shape the armies you command on the battlefield.

Take command of the Swedish army under King Charles XII through the unfolding Great Northern War. From the shores of Denmark to the vast plains of Russia, victory will demand discipline, resolve and careful judgement. Every march takes your soldiers farther from home. Every battle leaves fewer veterans to face the next.

History remembers a campaign of extraordinary victories that ended in catastrophe at Poltava. But history need not repeat itself. With progression between battles and alternate-history endings, Sweden's fate is not yet sealed.

Take command of the armies and nations of early-18th-century Europe in battle and campaign modes:

 Kingdom of Sweden

 Tsardom of Russia

 Kingdom of England

 Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

 Kingdom of Prussia

 Kingdom of Denmark-Norway

 Kingdom of France
