A retro inspired psychological horror game about a student pulled into a surreal hub of locked doors and broken memories, where each step deeper reveals the town’s buried secrets and the truth behind what everyone chose to ignore.
We Pretend is a retro-style psychological horror game about memory, trauma, and the truths people pretend not to see.
You play as Minufuri, a second-year student who awakens in a place between realities known as the Shrouded Shack, a strange waystation for lost souls. There, an enigmatic Observer watches over you and offers doors formed from memories you seem to have forget.
Each door leads to a distorted “memory space” built from fragments of Minufuri’s past. A school. A street. A home. Places that should feel familiar, but have become warped by fear, guilt, and emotion. To move forward, you must explore these memories, survive what waits inside them, and uncover the truth behind why you arrived at the Shrouded Shack in the first place.
Behind the static, low-poly corridors, and fixed camera angles is a personal story about isolation, abuse, rumours, neglect, and the weight of silence.
Enter The Shrouded Shack
Between each memory, you return to the Shrouded Shack, a surreal hub watched over by the Observer. Here, you can speak with lost souls, gather hints, reflect on the items you have found, and choose which memory to face next.

Face Distorted Memories
Each level represents a different part of Minufuri’s forgotten past. These are not normal locations, but emotional reconstructions of places tied to trauma, fear, and identity.
Explore fixed-camera environments, search for Elation Items, avoid supernatural threats, and piece together what truly happened. Some memories may appear simple at first, but hidden paths, altered spaces, and optional discoveries reveal deeper layers of the story.

Emotion Becomes Survival
Throughout the game, you will collect items connected to Obscenity and Elation.
Elation represents memories and emotions made physical. These feelings can help you open new paths, reveal hidden truths, and reach alternate endings — but they can also make the world more dangerous. The more you feel, the more the memory reacts.
Survival is not only about escaping enemies. It is about deciding how much truth you are willing to face.

A Story About What Was Ignored
At its core, We Pretend is about the parts of a person that were silenced, dismissed, and left behind.
Minufuri’s memories reveal a life shaped by authority, rumours, family pressure, bullying, neglect, and the fear of speaking the truth when no one is willing to listen. Each memory-space represents something Minufuri learned to survive: not knowing, not feeling, not seeing, not hearing, and not complaining.
But survival is not the same as healing.
As Minufuri moves deeper through the doors of the Shrouded Shack, the memories become harder to ignore. The places that once caused pain begin to shift, distort, and reveal what was hidden beneath them. Personal objects, forgotten conversations, and impossible spaces slowly form a picture of what really happened — and why Minufuri chose to pretend it never did.
We Pretend is a story about confronting the truth after a lifetime of being told to endure it. Whether Minufuri finds salvation, escape, or something far more uncertain depends on what the player is willing to remember.
