A newly licensed boy drives a highway on a torrential night. In the back seat, his girlfriend is consumed by a "Paranormal Phenomenon" born of a social media firestorm. Beside him, a self-proclaimed expert in modern Paranormal Phenomena. A horror road-movie adventure by playwright Keisuke Tagawa.
Rain pounds the highway at night.
Raindrops streaming down the windshield, wipers sweeping in a steady rhythm, taillights and the glint of roadside delineators bleeding across the wet asphalt. This game was built around a single experience: driving a highway at night through a downpour.
The protagonist is an 18-year-old boy who got his driver's license just last week. He has never driven in rain like this. Even so, he cannot stop the car. In the back seat, his girlfriend's life is being worn away by the malice that has gathered against her on social media. To save her, he must reach a certain place.
DRIVE IN THE RAIN is a horror-tinged road-movie adventure in which the story unfolds through the conversations of the three people in the car.
Story
Late at night, in pouring rain, his girlfriend suddenly shows up at his door.
"Can you take the car out?"
An influencer with 700,000 followers, she was in the middle of an online firestorm. A post had gone viral claiming she was the ringleader of the bullying that drove a classmate to suicide. That classmate was the protagonist's younger sister.
She can't breathe. She hears voices when no one is there. Told at the hospital that nothing was wrong, she searched her symptoms online and found a website called the "Modern Paranormal Consultation Office." In a room in a run-down apartment, surrounded by computers and smartphones, a woman tells them: when the malice of a crowd on social media converges on a single person, it becomes a "Paranormal Phenomenon" that attacks its target.
Seeking a lasting solution, the three set out onto the rain-soaked highway. Their destination: the club training camp where the bullying video was filmed. Their goal: to capture on video the "memory" seared into that place.

A Highway on a Rainy Night
The game takes place on a single, roughly 100 km stretch of highway on a rainy night.
The endless drumming of rain. A view blurred by water droplets. The next exit is still far away; unable to get off or stop, the car presses on through an indistinct landscape. In the rain-hazed darkness, the headlights of oncoming cars and the reflections of the delineators lining the shoulder rise into view, then stream away behind you. That monotonous rhythm brings a strange sense of calm in the midst of taut tension. Savor a one-of-a-kind driving experience where unease and calm coexist.
Online Firestorms and Paranormal Phenomena
In this game's world, when a crowd on social media singles someone out as "the one to blame" and that malice passes a certain threshold, it manifests around the target as a "Paranormal Phenomenon."
The fiercer the firestorm, the further the Paranormal Phenomenon spreads, reaching not only her but also the car and its driver. Flickering headlights. A car that won't obey. The supernatural closes in on all three of them, physically and mentally.
Can a livestream from inside the car shift public opinion? And can you reach your destination without crashing?
