A deep pro-football front-office sim. Draft through a fog of scouting, build contracts that come due years later, develop raw kids into stars, and outlast 31 rival GMs who scout, bluff, and hold grudges. No play-calling. Every decision is yours, and so is every consequence.
A deep front-office football sim for people who think the real game happens in the war room and on the cap sheet. The whole job. None of the joystick.
You're the general manager. You draft, trade, sign, cut, and extend. You hire the coaches, set the scheme, and answer to an owner who's counting wins. Then the games are played out snap by snap, and you live with the results. You'll never throw a pass. You'll decide who throws them for the next ten years.
- One franchise, 31 AI rivals, and a league that runs for decades.
- Every game simulated play by play. Open any drive and walk it snap by snap, name by name.
- You set tendencies, never plays: lean on the run, blitz more, go for it on fourth. The coaches call it and the film tells you if it worked.
- Five ways to start: a fresh build, an aging contender, a teardown, a war chest, or a capped-out mess.
You never see the true ratings. Nobody does.
There's no overall number anywhere in the game. Every player you haven't done the work on reads as a range: attributes, ceiling, even personality. Scouting narrows it. Playing time narrows it. Your own long-time players read clearly; the rival's rookie you're about to trade for does not. The AI works under the same fog. It over-rates its own guys and misreads yours, so a sharp eye is a real weapon.
- Fogged attributes that tighten as you scout, watch tape, and live with a player.
- Two scouts with their own leanings. Point them at a draft class, a rival roster, or free agents.
- The board lies. Steals and busts surface over seasons, not on draft day.
Draft night is a bloodsport.
Build your big board, then run the war room live: the clock bleeding, picks coming off, rivals calling with offers. Trade up when your guy is sliding. Trade down when the value is wrong. First-rounders usually arrive close to what they'll become; a seventh-rounder who sticks is a scouting win you earned.
- A live, paced draft with trade offers in real time.
- A report card the night of the draft, and a retrospective years later when the careers are real.
- Late rounds are a gauntlet. Most won't make it. Finding the one who does is the job.
Grow them yourself.
Development is where dynasties are won. Put a young player on a development plan and pay for it in your coaches' limited focus. Set him goals: sharpen a skill, build his frame, learn the system, grow up. Pair him with a veteran mentor. Some kids take off early, some plateau, some bloom at 27, and some never close the gap. When the season ends, the Development Report tells you who grew, who stalled, and why, before you make a single offseason decision.
- Development plans with goals, progress bars, and a real cost in coaching attention.
- Traits a player is born with, earns, or picks up from a mentor, and each one does something.
- Aging that's real: legs go first, savvy lasts, and quarterbacks and kickers hold on longest.
Every dollar tells the truth.
The cap is the one opponent that never gets hurt. Signing bonuses, guarantees, void years, dead money. Every contract is a bet, and the books always come due. Restructure today and you've mortgaged two years from now. Tag your cornerstone for one more season, or let him walk to a division rival.
- Base, bonus, guarantees, void years, restructures, and spread cuts.
- The cornerstone tag, a cap that grows every offseason, and a championship premium when your winners want paying.
- Re-sign your own, raid free agency in waves with bidding wars, or build through the draft.
Your players have a pulse.
A 53-man roster is 53 personalities. Underpay your star in his walk year and he holds out. Bench a proud veteran for a rookie and the locker room picks a side. Work ethic, ego, and temperament stay hidden until they cost you, and by then he's either winning you games or losing you the room. The big moments land as one-sheet decisions, and some options cost nothing today except your word. The game writes the promise down, and he remembers.
- Holdouts, trade demands, and locker-room chemistry that changes results.
- Character events with real outcomes: lasting marks, temporary wounds, promises with deadlines.
- Motivation, composure, and form that rise and fall across a season.
Thirty-one GMs who play the same game.
Every AI franchise knows where it stands: All-In, Competing, Retooling, or Rebuilding, and it acts like it. Contenders buy veterans at the deadline. Rebuilders sell them for picks. Teams fight for every roster spot, through free agency and camp and all season long. And they remember. Insult the same GM with lowballs and he stops taking your calls. Catch one on the hot seat and he'll take less than fair to save his job.
- Rival GMs with distinct styles, blind spots, rapport, and grudges.
- A living trade market: offers, feelers, counters, and deadline deals.
- AI teams that draft, develop, and manage the cap under the same rules you do.
The owner is always watching.
Every season the owner sets a mandate. Hit it and win to buy yourself room. Miss it and the seat gets warm fast. Lose long enough and you're cleaning out your desk, though a struggling franchise across the league might call with a second chance.
- Owner trust, season mandates, and a hot seat that's real.
- Get fired, then choose: take another job, or retire on your legacy.
- A GM career that spans franchises, not just one save.
Build something that outlives you.
Anyone can win once. The dynasty is the pick you nailed in year two paying off in year eight: the homegrown star you watched go from raw to the Hall of Fame, the core you kept together while everyone said sell.
- Decades-long saves with league history, records, and a Hall of Fame.
- Awards races all season: MVP odds, candidate cards, the Pro Bowl and All-League teams.
- A trophy case and a permanent Legacy score. Homegrown greatness counts for more than rentals.
Your league. Your logos.
Gridiron Grit ships with a fully fictional 32-team league. Want it to look like the one in your head? League Packs are a folder drop away: swap every team's name, city, colors, and logo, and even the player-name pools.
- Plain-folder mods. No tools, no rebuild. Share one as a zip.
- Built to be Workshop-friendly.
Deep, not buried.
Hover anything and a card explains it; hover a term inside that card and another opens beside it. An in-game wiki covers every system. The depth is there when you want it and out of the way when you don't.
Try the whole thing.
The demo isn't a slice. It's the full game through your first complete season and offseason: the draft, free agency, camp, all of it. Your save carries straight into the full game.
