You lead three mercenaries. You have no perfect plan. You have what you find.
A GAME ABOUT WHERE THINGS GO
Every item you recover must be physically placed into a mercenary's 4x4 inventory grid. A cleaver beside oil can become a sweeping strike. Greekfire beside a torch can turn a pack into a weapon. Holy relics, cursed charms, armor, food, tools, and blades all change depending on what they touch.
Your inventory is not storage. It is your character sheet.
PACKS BECOME TACTICS
Combat is turn-based, compact, and lethal. Move across small tactical grids, protect the wounded, and use the abilities your pack unlocked before the fight began. A good build gives you options. A desperate build gives you stories.
CHOOSE THREE DOOMED MERCENARIES
Build each run around a three-person warband chosen from nine mercenary archetypes, including the Witch-hunter, Plague Doctor, Templar, Apostate, Sin-eater, Bone-Setter, Hollow Bride, Flagellant, and Gallows-Born.
Each mercenary has different stats, item restrictions, starting gear, and build hooks. Some thrive on armor. Some weaponize poison. Some make cursed objects look almost reasonable.
THREE REGIONS. THREE BOSSES. NO CLEAN VICTORIES.
Travel through the Plagued Hamlet, the Forest of Hangings, and the Black Cathedral. Each region brings its own enemies, encounter tables, items, and boss.
Death ends the run, but not the work. Relics, achievements, and unlocks return to the Hideout, where you open new gear, new mercenary options, and new ways to build the next doomed expedition.

EARLY ACCESS
Blackbriar Crypt is planned for Early Access so player feedback can shape balance, item synergies, unlock pacing, and late-run difficulty.
The current target includes the core run loop, three regions, three bosses, nine mercenaries, nearly one hundred items, achievements, audio, accessibility settings, and Steam integration. Early Access will focus on tuning, usability, controller/Steam Deck polish, localization quality, and additional content where it improves the core inventory puzzle.
