A TRUE CRIME SIMULATOR — VOLUME I

You are Detective Partridge, investigating the disappearance of a missing girl at a run-down trailer park at the end of a gravel road. Piece together the mystery of what happened to Abby Pullman by cross-examining the residents of the trailer park and searching for clues.

TALK LIKE A DETECTIVE

Type your own questions. Investigate how you want. There are NO dialogue trees. What they will tell you, what they will deny, and what they emotionally cannot face yet are all subject to change. Push them with evidence you find, or inconsistencies in their stories. Watch composure crack or earn trust.

They do not recite scripts. They hold secrets. And they will not say what they do not know. Investigate the crime by asking the characters ANYTHING you want, just like a real detective.

INVESTIGATE LIKE IT MATTERS

The environment of the trailer park holds secrets to discover just as much as the characters do. Learn as much as you can to confront the characters with evidence and expose the truth of what happened to Abby Pullman.

THE SUSPECTS:

Chuck Pullman: a father who will not leave his campfire until his daughter comes home.

Daisy Brichard: the sweetest grandmother imaginable, baking for when Abby gets back.

Desmond Lloyd: a paranoid man nobody believes. He may be right about everything.

⚠ PLEASE READ BEFORE PLAYING / REVIEWING ⚠

Detective games feel like what LLMs were made for, and Lurks Beneath is my attempt at the real thing: question suspects in your own words, about anything, the way an actual detective would.

The suspects run on an AI that lives entirely on your machine. Nothing is sent to the cloud, and no account or internet connection is needed. That's also why your hardware matters so much. On the recommended specs, suspects answer in a few seconds. On weaker machines, they slow down. Below the minimum specs, expect 20+ seconds per answer, and an interrogation with that much dead air just isn't fun.

Short version: the better your computer, the better the interrogations. Play the free demo first. If it runs well for you, the full game will too.

Note: generative AI is used in one place: the suspects' replies to your questions. The game loads a local, offline LLM (Llama 3.1 8B), and code around it keeps each answer in character and in line with the story. Generative AI was not used to create the game. It's only a gameplay mechanic.
