Some will help you for coin.
Some, because the road was worse alone.
Journey alone.. In the single-player journey , draft a leader and a defining trait, then follow the hard rhythm of the road:
Shop → Place → Equip → Battle → Plan → Shop..
You can endure three losses in combat, but need to survive for twelve weeks. Harder trials bring crueler foes. Deeds earned along the way open the door to new recruits, gear, traits, boss battles, and new factions.. the persistent Bone Host , and the treasure-obsessed Below Born .
Or with agreeable company In multiplayer, 2 to 8 players share a tournament and regrettably, the markets as well.
Bid against other players for the same recruits and gear, arrange your company in peace, and meet each rival in a turn-based league. Bring friends, fill empty seats with AI armies, wager on featured matches, and remember who it was that increased the price paid for your squire.
Climb the ranked ladder In ranked , your armies face companies built by ruthless AI, and eventually other players from the closed beta (and Early Access). A rating follows every result, matching you with opponents who have proved roughly as dangerous as you. Win and climb to earn rare rewards.
Goodly Trials Gameplay Goodly Trials is turn-based: The road will wait while you think.
No two bargains are quite alike: Units and gear bear innate attributes and rolled traits that change what they are good for. An otherwise ordinary hire may become the strange hinge upon which the whole company turns. The market does not ask whether a recruit is good. It asks whether you can imagine a good use for this one.
Auto-battler: The field and your company grow throughout the journey. Small skirmishes become full formations, where range, formation, flanking, adjacency, and the shape of the opposing line all matter. The battle itself demands no hurried commands. Once committed, your company proves the strength of your tactics.
Developer's statement: Thanks for taking a look at Goodly Trials. It has become exactly the game I hoped to make.
It is also the game I have wanted to play as I have gotten older, with less time for grinding, less aptitude for the APM demands of MOBAs, and no patience for pay-to-win designs.
Lastly, artistically it lives up to my values. Goodly Trials will always be small and precise enough that I, (or another) artist draw by hand, every image of every frame, from the mouse cursor to the bosses and their grand weapons. AI is changing everything in the world it seems, but it will have no impart on the design of Goodly Trials.
It is a little game with big ideas. I hope you enjoy it.
