Morgenrot is a city-building, economic, and strategy simulation set in a living island world. Build settlements, manage production chains, supply your population, establish trade routes, colonize new islands, and protect your fleet from pirates and other dangers.
About This Game
Morgenrot is a city-building, economic, and strategy simulation set in a living island world. Build your own settlement, manage complex production chains, supply your population, discover new islands, and protect your trade routes from pirates and other dangers.
Start on your main island and develop a small settlement into a functioning economy. Build roads, houses, production buildings, warehouses, and infrastructure. Make sure raw materials are processed, goods are transported, and your inhabitants are reliably supplied with food, clothing, and other essential resources.
Build Your Own Settlement
Plan roads and buildings freely and adapt your town to the natural landscape of the island. Many buildings can be upgraded, improving production, storage capacity, transport efficiency, or their area of influence.
Workers can be assigned to important businesses through priorities. Production limits, workforce settings, and stock targets help you keep control of your economy as your population grows.
A successful settlement depends on more than production alone. Hunger, supply, happiness, and building maintenance all directly affect the development of your population.
Create Functioning Production Chains
Morgenrot features a variety of goods connected through production chains.
Harvest wood, grow wheat, mill it into flour, and bake bread. Process wool into fabric and eventually into clothing. Mine ore and combine it with wood to produce tools or cannons.
Goods do not simply appear in storage. Citizens and carts visibly transport produced resources between businesses, warehouses, trading posts, and marketplaces.
Missing roads, insufficient workers, full storage buildings, or a lack of input goods can slow down entire production chains.
Develop Your Population
Provide housing and create the right conditions for new inhabitants to move into your settlement.
Supply them with fish, meat, or bread, provide clothing, and improve happiness through marketplaces, churches, and decorations.
Your population develops through several stages, from Settlers to Citizens and eventually Admirals. Each development stage unlocks new buildings and possibilities.
A well-supplied and satisfied population will grow and generate tax income. Hunger and severe dissatisfaction, however, can cause inhabitants to leave your island.
Discover and Colonize New Islands
Your world consists of more than a single island.
Explore your main island and several distant islands, discover trading locations, a volcanic island, and the home of the pirates. Colony ships allow you to settle additional islands and establish new settlements of your own.
Create trade routes between your colonies and decide which goods should be transported, how much should be delivered, and which minimum or maximum stock levels should be maintained on each island.
Trade and Economy
Use different trading systems to expand and stabilize your economy.
Trading posts allow you to buy and sell goods while reacting to changing market prices. Automatic stock targets can be configured so that arriving merchant ships purchase missing goods or sell surpluses.
You can also discover specialized external trading islands and export goods in exchange for coins or valuable raw materials.
As your colonies expand, finding the right balance between local production, storage, and trade becomes increasingly important.
Build Your Own Fleet
Construct different types of ships in your shipyard for trade, colonization, and combat.
Merchant ships transport goods between your islands, colony ships establish new settlements, and warships protect your trade routes.
Select multiple ships, set courses and formations, and assign escorts to vulnerable merchant vessels.
Damaged ships can be repaired near occupied shipyards.
Defend Your Trade Routes
The seas are not safe.
Pirate ships regularly emerge from their own island and threaten your fleet and trade routes. Your warships automatically engage enemies within range, and destroying pirate vessels rewards you with coins.
As your fleet grows, another threat may awaken from the volcano.
A dragon can attack your ships and cause serious losses. After its first appearance, a specialized Dragon Hunter becomes permanently available and automatically attacks the creature.
But the dragon cannot be defeated forever.
Research and Progress
Generate research points and invest them in upgrades for your economy and trading capabilities.
Research can improve production efficiency, reduce building wear, unlock new overseas trading routes, and increase the value of external trade.
Occupied churches can also contribute to your research progress.
Campaign and Free Play
Morgenrot offers both a free-play mode and a structured campaign.
The campaign introduces the game's major systems step by step, beginning with camera controls and road building before progressing into production chains, building upgrades, maintenance, fleet construction, colonization, and island trade.
Free play also includes long-term objectives, main quests, repeatable tasks, and randomly offered contracts.
Delivery contracts feature deadlines, rewards, and possible penalties. Completing assignments can also earn you fame and improve your standing.
A Living Island World
The world of Morgenrot changes over time.
Day and night affect the lighting, while spring, summer, autumn, and winter follow one another. Seasons influence agriculture and the way your settlements operate.
Rain, fog, and thunderstorms move across the islands. Forests regrow and are inhabited by different species of wildlife. Seagulls circle above the coast, dolphins move through the sea, and fishing boats travel along the shoreline.
Production buildings show their activity through stacked goods, smoke, and animations, while lights, churches, bells, and inhabitants help make your settlements feel alive rather than simply functional.
Build. Produce. Trade. Colonize.
Develop your own island economy, connect multiple colonies, and maintain control over an increasingly complex world.
