It farms while you work

Overdepth is an idle loot RPG that lives in a 160-pixel strip above your taskbar. There is no window to keep on top of and no tab to leave open. You pick a depth and a kind of run, your character fights it without you, and you glance down to see what dropped.

A run

A run is a wave of enemies one after another. Win and you keep the payout. Lose and the run ends with nothing taken and nothing spent.

Four kinds of run

• Clear — the standard run: gear, dust, and the depth record.

• Hunt — a longer wave for one slot you choose. Every item that drops lands in it.

• Dive — no gear at all. Cores and scrolls for the forge instead.

• Endless — starts at depth 200 and does not stop until something kills you.

Depth is the one dial that matters

Depth sets the zone, the enemies, the item level and which rarities can appear. Six zones down the ladder — Forest, Caves, Ashlands, Blightmarsh, Void Reaches and The Abyss — each with its own monsters and its own boss. Rarity only ever adds: nothing leaves the pool, so going deeper raises the ceiling and your odds of reaching it rather than replacing what you already had.

Loot, and what you do with it

• Five rarities from Common to Legendary, and ten named uniques that each change one rule of how you fight.

• Enhancement from +0 to +15

• A skill tree of ten branches, each ending in a keystone, and a second resource tree.

• Three loadouts — gear and skills together — and switching between them is instant and free.

The climb

Every depth you reach is banked and never lost. A global leaderboard ranks the deepest runs, and you can open anyone's build from it and see exactly what they were wearing when they got there.

Built to be left alone

No ads and no energy timers. The strip minimises to a line you can ignore, the game keeps resolving while it is closed, and everything is saved on your own machine.
