Every word you learn takes you farther

Lexicon Odyssey brings Japanese study, auto-battles, and RPG progression together in one adventure. Start with kana and work toward JLPT N1, collecting equipment, meeting companions, and uncovering the secrets of the forest along the way.

Back at camp, books, anime, and Japanese songs await. Run a burger shop and take orders in Japanese, or invite your Steam friends to a quiz duel.

From your first kana to JLPT N1

Begin with hiragana and katakana, then build your vocabulary and grammar step by step. Already know some Japanese? Choose a starting level that suits you. Kana lessons include stroke order and typing practice, while Elle's Classroom introduces the basics of Japanese through voiced lessons.

• 8,800+ distinct JLPT N5–N1 words
• 690+ JLPT N5–N1 grammar points
• 22,500+ Japanese example sentences

Study cards explain meaning and usage through readings and examples. Grammar cards cover sentence patterns, context, and easily confused expressions. Progressive hints and answer explanations help you work through difficult questions.

Build on what you learned yesterday

Active recall and spaced review run throughout your journey. A mistake notebook keeps track of material to revisit, while the memory codex records your progress with readings, meanings, and usage. Vocabulary questions, sentence-ordering exercises, and listening practice bring familiar material back in different forms.

Replay audio at a slower speed, and adjust battle visuals and sounds to make room for focused study.

Collect equipment and venture farther

Collect, forge, and upgrade hundreds of weapons and accessories. Combine them with spells to build your own fighting style. Expedition auto-battles, 3D duels, and bounty bosses progress alongside your studies. Listening closely to Japanese can even help you interrupt an enemy's chant.

Beyond the forests and abyss, an endless otherworld opens after 300 km. Eight altered forests hold further challenges, with new monsters and bosses waiting in their depths.

Run a burger shop and use Japanese in everyday life

Meet a colorful cast of customers at your own burger shop. Take orders in Japanese, prepare burgers, and answer calls for takeout. Running the shop and chatting with customers bring vocabulary and listening practice into a lively daily routine.

Watch anime and sing in Japanese

Get a television for camp and watch Japanese anime with your companions! Japanese subtitles come with translations and furigana, alongside companion explanations, personal notes, and review quizzes. Dialogue from the stories becomes another way to learn Japanese.

The karaoke room features Japanese songs with original vocals, line-by-line lyric explanations, and sing-along word challenges. Get to know a song you enjoy, then try keeping up with its rhythm!

Read a book or tune in to camp radio

Explore 42 Japanese books with translations and narration, word-by-word highlighting, and shadowing practice. Work your way from short stories toward literary works and longer passages. Camp radio offers 234 weather reports across six levels, from kana to N1, for a little listening during a break.

A camp full of familiar faces

Companions arrive as your journey unfolds. Conversations, gifts, and quests gradually reveal their pasts. Japanese dialogue includes translations and language notes, while the real-time 3D camp changes its scenery with the regions you explore.

A thirty-second sprint, or a duel with friends

Fit a 30-second quiz sprint into your day, or gather up to eight people in the friend lobby for chat and PvP quiz duels with Steam friends. Your equipment progression and spell combinations come along for these friendly matches. Steam leaderboards track your achievements on the journey and let you display your own crest.

Pick up your weapon and open your dictionary. Your next expedition begins with the words you learn today.
