A third-person medieval fantasy action RPG

Medieval Fantasy Origins is a single-player third-person action role-playing game focused on exploration, combat, and level progression across a group of heroes.

Its design aims for a handcrafted and direct experience, an indie project that seeks to recover the essence of medieval fantasy and its European roots.

Classic medieval fantasy: inspired by medieval Europe and its folklore

The game humbly aims to reclaim the essence of pure medieval fantasy, drawing from European medieval history, mythology, and folklore. No modern reinterpretations, no stylistic mixing, no elements foreign to the genre. The atmosphere remains faithful, sober, and classic. Respectful of the genre’s roots. No political propaganda or agendas of any kind.

A medieval fantasy inspired by classic board and role-playing games such as HeroQuest (1989), Warhammer Fantasy from the 90s. By books and films like The Lord of the Rings (P. Jackson) or Conan the Barbarian (1982). And by video games such as Blade: The Age of Darkness (mainly), Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, or Dark Souls.

Explore a handcrafted world and fight enemies

The game offers simple indie-style gameplay, with different areas and dungeons to explore in a small open world. Discover alternative routes, secret treasures, and items that strengthen your heroes while fighting all kinds of enemies from rich European folklore: orcs and goblins, werewolves, ogres, trolls, rat-men, corrupted elves and dwarves, undead, etc.

Combat is basic, direct, and solid, based on strikes and blocks, where reading the enemy is key. Positioning and attack/defense timing are important.

Feel the numerical superiority of your enemies and/or the level difference. The player must fight skillfully, choose the best strategy for each encounter, and level up to progress more comfortably.

You will have different types of weapons:

• Swords and shields.

• Two-handed weapons: hammer, axe, greatswords.

• Bows of different power.

• Magic.

A clan of six heroes

Control a group of six characters, switching between them at the base camp depending on their traits or to progress through specific sections of the adventure:

• Barbarian

• Dwarf

• Knight

• Elf

• Mage

• Amazon

With group level progression — Clan Level — your characters share experience but evolve slightly differently (for example, the mage and elf can use magic, while the barbarian and dwarf better enhance their ability to wield heavy two-handed weapons).

Independent development and niche focus

Medieval Fantasy Origins is a truly indie project, created by a single developer. It does not seek to compete with AA or AAA games, but to offer a simple and handcrafted experience for players who enjoy (and miss) authentic medieval fantasy in modern video games. A title made without great pretensions, with transparency and humility, embracing its independent nature and limitations.
